The Life You Want Your Kids to Live by Les Parrott III

“Whoever is happy will make others happy too.” –Anne Frank

Pessimists usually expect the worst and are prone to depression. Optimists see life in a positive light and view problems as temporary obstacles.

“The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind.” –William James

I am convinced that if we habitually believe, as do the pessimists, that misfortune is our fault, is enduring and will undermine everything we do, more of it will befall us than if we believed otherwise.

“Attitudes are capable of making the same experience either pleasant or painful.” –John Powell

Researchers found through other experiments that humans who lack optimism are as susceptible to learned helplessness as animals.

1.       Don’t let little things get big. “Think of it as being easy, and it shall be easy. Think of it as being difficult, and it shall be difficult.” – Arabian proverb  Help kids look at things realistically and determine situations rather than just panicking.

2.       Look for what others don’t readily see. “Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to your as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.” –John Homer Miller

3.       Give thanks in all things. “I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened.” – Mark Twain  But in those times we can model the ability to adjust to things beyond our control. And when children see Mom or Dad do this, they remember it for a long time. So don’t discount the lessons you teach your children about this quality when you give thanks in all things.
