Adjust to Things Beyond Your Control
“You have to accept whatever comes, and the only important thing is that you meet it with courage and with the best you have to give.” -Eleanor Roosevelt
“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain.” – Maya Angelou
“The last of the human freedoms is to choose one’s attitudes.” –Viktor Frankl
“It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other peop0le think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill.” -Chuck Swindoll
The ability to adjust when life is beyond our control is the ability to recognize that we, not our circumstances, control our attitude.
“You are only one thought away from a good feeling.” – Sheila krystal
1. Inspire them with example – “We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances.” Any dramatic or memorable story of a person who has a positive attitude despite his or her circumstances will probably stick in your child’s mind. Sharing these inspirational stories with your children is a key to cultivating this quality. Let them see how real people overcome real problems, and remind them that God will help them adjust and overcome too.
2. Disbar discouragement – Discouragement can lead to doubting God’s love and provision.
3. Master an even emotional tone – How you manage your emotions speaks volumes to your children about how they can – or can’t – do the same thing. The more consistent and stable your emotions, the more likely that your children will follow suit. “People are just about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” – Abraham Lincoln
4. Talk to your kids about how misfortune can become good fortune. – God uses unexpected means to get us where He wants us in life. Tell these stories to your children. And teach them that God will do the same in their lives.
